Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is confident of signing a midfielder before the transfer deadline.

The Leicester Mercury claims Rodgers wants to sign Watford star Nathaniel Chalobah prior to the window closing on Monday night.

Speaking after the Foxes went down to Leeds on Sunday, Rodgers was excited about a potential new arrival.

Quizzed if he had confidence of bolstering his squad, Rodgers replied: "Yes. It'll be good for the team, we have a gap there so the club will work hard at looking to get someone in.

"Our idea is to get a midfield player. If we can do that, then great."

Rodgers knows Chalobah from his time coaching in Chelsea's academy.

The 26-year-old left Stamford Bridge for Watford in 2017.

When asked specifically about the Englishman, Rodgers replied: "I know Nathaniel from my time working with him at Chelsea, but I know lots of players and there are a number of players that we're looking at."
