PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 3,847 Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,692 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 186,970. In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 238,721.
There are 50,894 active cases, with 305 patients being treated in intensive care and 139 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 12 deaths take the death toll to 857. The new cases today involved 3,843 local infections and four imported cases. Local cases comprised 2,569 Malaysians and 1,274 foreigners. Selangor detected the highest number of cases again with 1,481. Other states and federal territories that recorded three-digit infections comprised Johor (585), Kuala Lumpur (402), Melaka (329), Sabah (233), Penang (211), Sarawak (185) and Negeri Sembilan (133). They were followed by Kedah (64), Kelantan (62), Terengganu (56), Pahang (48), Perak (36), Labuan (10), Putrajaya (8) and Perlis (4). There were 133 cases from prisons and detention centres, most of which came from the Tembok Renggam (34) and Tembok Sungai Udang (33) clusters. The 12 deaths today comprised eight Malaysians and four foreigners, aged 38 to 84 years old. All but one suffered from existing medical conditions. The clusters were detected in Terengganu, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Selangor. The Gong Nering cluster is a workplace cluster in Besut, Terengganu, and involves a company in Kampung Gong Nering. The first case tested positive on Feb 12 through a symptomatic screening. A total of 183 people have been screened, with 26 testing positive. The Jalan Kubur Darau cluster in Besut, Terengganu, involves a high-risk group. The index case tested positive on Jan 28 through a symptomatic screening. The cluster involves the index case’s social contacts in Jalan Kubur Darau and Kampung Raja, Besut. Of the 42 people screened, 15 tested positive. The Jalan Chester cluster is a workplace cluster in Tawau, Sabah, with the index case testing positive on Feb 2 through a symptomatic screening. This cluster involves a jewellery store in Jalan Chester in Bandar Tawau. So far, 19 individuals have been screened, of which 10 were found positive. The Jalan Sungai Besi construction site cluster was detected in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, with the index cases testing positive on Feb 6 through a targeted screening at a construction site. A total of 113 people were screened, of which 12 tested positive. The Jalan Bayu Satu cluster is a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru, Johor, with the index cases testing positive on Feb 6 through a targeted screening at a factory in Jalan Bayu Satu, Bandar Seri Alam. So far, 35 people have been screened, with 18 testing positive. The Jalan Istimewa Tujuh cluster is another workplace cluster in Johor Bahru, Johor. The first case tested positive on Feb 2 after a symptomatic screening. The cluster involves workers at a factory on Jalan Istimewa 7, Taman Perindustrian Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram. Of the 92 individuals screened, 29 were found positive. The Jalan Tun Mutalib cluster is a workplace cluster in Kota Tinggi, Johor. The index case tested positive on Jan 27 through a screening before travelling overseas. The cluster involves workers from a factory at Jalan Tun Mutalib, Bandar Tenggara. A total of 32 people were screened, with 6 found positive. The Gudang Salak Tinggi cluster is a workplace cluster in Sepang, Selangor, with the index cases testing positive on Feb 4 through a targeted screening at a company in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang. A total of 455 people have been screened, of whom 42 tested positive. The Industri Kampung Baru cluster is a workplace cluster in Petaling, Selangor. The first few cases were detected positive on Feb 6 through a targeted screening on three factories in Topaz Industrial Centre, Kampung Baru, Sungai Buloh. So far, 450 people were screened and 167 found positive. The Lingkaran Cyber cluster is a workplace cluster involving the districts of Sepang and Petaling in Selangor. The index cases tested positive on Feb 5 through a targeted screening at a supermarket in Lingkaran Cyber Point Timur, Cyberjaya. So far, 75 people have been screened, with 24 found positive. The Jalan Banting-Klang cluster is a workplace cluster in Kuala Langat, Selangor, with the index cases testing positive on Feb 6 after a targeted screening at a factory in Jalan Banting-Klang, Telok Panglima Garang Industrial Estate. Of the 287 individuals screened, 13 tested positive. The Jalan Kuala Selangor cluster is a workplace cluster in Kuala Selangor, Selangor. The index case tested positive on Feb 6 after a close contact screening. This cluster involves a school in Kampung Tanjong Karang, Jalan Kuala Selangor-Teluk Intan. A total of 87 people were screened, with 11 found positive. Five clusters have officially ended today, namely the Rapat, Jalan Sedco, Rambai, Jalan Nikolas and Ria-30 clusters. There are now 441 active clusters out of the 888 reported. Clusters that reported the most infections today were the Industry Serkam (257), Industri Kampung Baru (167) and Mayang Pasir (102) clusters.
