Liverpool have agreed a £2million fee with Preston North End for defender Ben Davies.

The Reds have been surveying their options throughout January after a defensive injury crisis.

The latest injuries to Fabinho and Joel Matip has forced Michael Edwards' hand and a deal has now been reached for Davies.

The 25-year-old came through the Preston academy and has become a first-team stalwart in recent seasons.

Davies will undergo a medical with Liverpool on Monday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to confirm the move when speaking after his side claimed a 3-1 win over West Ham United on Sunday.

The German joked: "Ben Davies? [he plays for] Tottenham?

"There is nothing to say about it. I say all the time, in our situation, it makes sense.

"Our eyes are always open and we try to fix our situation."
