KK man charged with having cannabis

Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old man was charged with having 50.29gm of cannabis.

Muhammad Firdaus Mohamad was brought before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to face the charge against him.

However, no plea was taken from Muhammad after the charge was read to him.

Muhammad is accused of having the drug at 11.05pm on Jan 22 this year at Taman Ridgeview in Jalan Bunga Raja Kayu, here.

The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, provides for a jail term of between five years and life imprisonment and whipping of at least 10 strokes, on conviction.

The court fixed Feb 18 this year for mention pending the chemist’s report on the drug and the proceedings will be conducted via video link.

Pending the date, Muhammad was ordered remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Megat Mahathir Megat Tharih Affendy appeared for the prosecution while counsel Luqman Syazwan Zabidi Md Zain and Mohd Al Hafidz Mohd Lokman defended Muhammad.
