Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed club owners FSG apologised to him for the squad he inherited when taking charge five years ago.

Klopp was named Liverpool boss in 2015, and replaced Brendan Rodgers at the helm. The team were in tenth place at the time.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, Klopp revealed he received a text from the Fenway Sports Group apologising for the tough job he had just inherited.

"At the beginning I received a message from the US saying, 'Sorry for the squad we've given you'," said Klopp. "But all was good I replied, it just needs time.

"There is a very strong tie to the owners, they support a lot. I just want to win football matches, to be honest."
