Jail for disposing stolen cash

Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to 24 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for disposing of stolen RM38,000 cash by purchasing a used 4WD vehicle.

Sahazmi Selamat pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to disposing stolen cash money belonging to one Ng Boon Siam by buying an Isuzu Dmax vehicle at 9am on Dec 3, 2020 at Bon Automobile, Mile 4, Jalan Tuaran in Likas.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that Ng had lodged a police report on Dec 2, 2020 that her house was broken into and that several valuables including a safe box containing RM450,000 cash were stolen.

The court heard that Sahazmi was arrested by police on Jan 12 this year and that during investigation he confessed to breaking into Ng’s house along with an accomplice where they stole the said money.

Sahazmi also confessed that he bought a used 4WD vehicle at the Bon Automobile (used car dealer) with cash from the money they stole.

The court ordered Sahazmi to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Jan 12 this year.

In another case, a 43-year-old unemployed man was fined RM1,000 or two weeks jail for damaging properties in his mother’s house. Aspi Adnan admitted to committing the mischief by damaging the properties of Ratnah Jawab at 10pm on Jan 31 in a house at Kg Cenderamata 2 in Likas.

The court heard that in Ratnah’s police report, Aspi, who was drunk, went amok and damaged the toilet’s door, kitchen window glasses and cooking utensil causing a total loss of RM150.

The court also heard that Aspi was staying in his mother’s house together with his wife and children.

Aspi was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and five years or fine or both on conviction.
