Former Manchester City captain Richard Dunne says his old club are yet to hit top gear - despite leading the Premier League table.

City head to title rivals Liverpool tomorrow on a 13-game winning run, having won eight in a row in the Premier League to establish a three-point lead at the top with a game in hand.

Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions, but former defender Dunne warned City's rivals they have yet to hit their peak - despite their formidable run.

“City had a bad patch at the start of the season and didn't start as quickly as they normally do," said Dunne.

“Over the course of the season they've got better and better, and they look like they've even got another gear to go into.

“But they've had a run of games which you'd have expected any team in the top-four to be winning.

“In the next month they've got some really tough games – Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United. If they come out of that well, they'll be in pole position.

"In terms of the title, Liverpool need to win. City, by no means, need to go there and win. A draw will definitely be a decent result."
