Everton hero Michael Ball has questioned the quality in Carlo Ancelotti's midfield.

Ball expressed his concern ahead of Saturday's derby against Liverpool.

He wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "My big issue at the minute is in the middle of the pitch. Who is going to be playing in the number 10? Who is going to be playing in the number six role?

"I think they are the two biggest question facing Carlo Ancelotti at the minute.

"Looking ahead to this Saturday's Merseyside derby, it is a tough one to call because we just don't know what Everton side is going to turn up.

"We have been waiting a long time to get one over on our rivals at Anfield, and there is no doubt it is going to be a massive test and really difficult game for us.

"Liverpool's forward play is still unbelievable and it might not be clicking right now, but in the majority of their games this season they have played well.

"It is only in recent weeks when they come under pressure that they have conceded and then buckled. We need to learn from this and see if we can do the same.

"Carlo's question marks for his team is who up front and who in midfield can start putting pressure on their back four?"
