PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,712 Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,320 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 235,082. In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 274,875, FMT reported.
There are 38,763 active cases with 227 patients being treated in intensive care and 103 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 25 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 1,030. The new cases today involved 2,708 local infections and four imported cases. Local cases comprised 1,588 Malaysians and 1,120 foreigners. Selangor again recorded the highest number of new infections with 1,013 cases, of which 795 were from clusters and screening of close contacts.
This was followed by Johor (426), Kuala Lumpur (212), Sarawak (200), Perak (198), Kedah (182), Penang (116), Sabah (114), Negeri Sembilan (81), Pahang (52), Kelantan (43), Melaka (38), Terengganu (19), Putrajaya (7), Perlis (6) and five cases in Labuan. Some 43 of the cases were linked to prison, lockup and detention centre clusters, of which 198 were from the Tembok Bendera cluster. This was followed by the Telok Mas cluster (11), Tembok Sungai Udang (8) and one each from the Pengkalan Chepa, Matambai, Kepayan prison, DTI Sepang 2 and Seberang Perai prison clusters. The 25 who died today comprised 21 Malaysians and four foreigners, with the youngest aged 3 in Sabah and the oldest a 100-year-old man from Selangor. A majority of them suffered from chronic illness.
