SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — The World Cancer Day 2021 and Cancer Awareness Month campaign will be held throughout February to increase public awareness on the risks of the disease.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said it would also educate the community on ways to conduct early self-detection as well as tests at clinics or hospitals.

“This year, the celebration is themed ‘I Can and I Will’ (Saya Akan dan Saya Boleh) and is aimed to remind the people of the risk of cancer and preventive measures that can be taken.

“Statistics show that more than half of cancer patients died due to late treatment when the disease is already at stage three or four,” said Amirudin in a post on Facebook today.

He said patients have a higher rate of recovery if they go for an early test as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising, not smoking and taking care of their diet.

The World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4 with the aim of inviting the public to support and jointly participate in efforts to prevent and control cancer disease.
