#CouplesChallenges or #GuysCantDoIt challenges are no stranger to the Tik Tok community.

Men seem to be getting the short end of the stick when it comes to social media challenges, from the chair challenge in 2019 to the recent centre-of-gravity challenge.

To refresh your memory, the chair challenge goes like this: place a chair in front of a wall, take two steps back, bend over with your head against the wall, pick up the chair and stand up.

This challenge proved to be a piece of cake for women, but it seemingly left the men stuck in that right-angled position, cursing under their breath.

While there have been many speculations on this peculiar phenomenon; from the idea of having a superior core, to having smaller feet sizes, or even different centres of gravity, YouTubers ‘Math Dad’ and ‘Science Mom’ have finally put many of these theories to test.

From their experiment, they were able to conclude that the distance between the person’s feet and the wall does in fact affect the results of the challenge.

“Being just a few inches further back from the wall makes all the difference in the world as to whether this is possible,” explains Science Mom, attesting to the fact that your centre of gravity does indeed affect the results of the challenge.

The closer you are to the wall, the easier it is to stand straight up from the 90-degree position with a chair between your hands.

However, with the latest #GuysCantDoIt centre-of-gravity challenge, your core strength might actually play a role in this.

The challenge starts with you going on all fours on the floor and balancing your upper body weight on your elbows ─ by using your hands to support your chin ─ and then pulling your arms behind your back.

While most videos end with the man face planting himself to the floor, there have been cases where the man’s core strength saves him from embarrassment.

A TikToker exclaimed, ‘My husband did it, no problem, and then yelled, core baby!’, while another said, ‘Dude, I'm a girl and I couldn't do it. I almost broke my neck and I live alone. Now, I am wondering how long it would take for someone to smell death’.

Here’s a man who succeeded in the challenge

Unlike the chair challenge, there is hope for men but for the centre-of-gravity challenge, be sure to work that core before attempting it. Also, maybe try it on a soft surface to avoid breaking your face. - Agencies, February 18, 2021
