8 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide, 5 involving workplaces

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said five of them were workplace clusters, two were community clusters, while the remaining one involved a high-risk group, FMT reported.

Three of the clusters were detected in Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Perak, Sarawak and Penang each had one new cluster.

The clusters that reported the most infections today were the Perindustrian Pelepas (55), Tanjung Suria (47) and Tembok Tapah (41) clusters.

The eight new clusters are:

Selangor:

- Industri 19 – a workplace cluster involving Petaling and Gombak. Positive cases were reported on Feb 24 after a targeted screening of workers at a factory along U19, Jalan Industri, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam. So far, 84 people have been screened, with 34 found to be positive.

- SS Lapan – a workplace cluster involving Klang, Kuala Selangor and Petaling. Positive cases were reported on Feb 7 after a targeted screening of workers at a factory along SS8, Zon Perindustrian Bebas Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya. A total of 600 people were screened, with 36 testing positive.

- Industri Jalan Empat – a workplace cluster involving Hulu Langat, Klang and Sepang. Positive cases were reported on Feb 15 after a targeted screening of workers at a factory in Jalan P/4, Kawasan Perindustrian Bangi, Hulu Langat. Of the 193 screened, 12 tested positive.

Sarawak:

- Jalan Ho Pin – a community cluster involving Samarahan, Kuching and Serian. The index case tested positive on Feb 20 through a screening. The cluster involved a social event that took place from Feb 11 to 13 in Kuching. A total of 120 were screened, with 14 found to be positive.

Kuala Lumpur:

- Jalan Putra Silang – a workplace cluster involving Kepong, Cheras and Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Bentong in Pahang. The index case tested positive on Feb 19 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves a company located along Jalan Kasipillay, Kepong. Of the 50 individuals screened, eight tested positive.

Penang:

- Lorong Murni – a cluster involving a high-risk group in Seberang Perai Utara.The index case tested positive on Feb 23 through a pre-surgery screening. The cluster involves an elderly care home along Lorong Murni 9, Taman Desa Murni. A total of 112 people were screened, with 21 testing positive.

Perak:

- Kampung Mak Teh – a community cluster in Batang Padang. The index case tested positive on Feb 21 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The name of the cluster refers to the area where most of the cases were detected, in Kampung Mak Teh, Jalan Tapah. So far, 150 people have been screened, with 16 testing positive.

Pahang:

- Indera Mahkota construction site – a workplace cluster in Kuantan. The index case tested positive on Feb 22 through a pre-employment screening. The cluster involves a construction site in Indera Mahkota 2. A total of 208 individuals were screened, with 10 found to be positive.
