Kota Kinabalu: More calls were made by NGOs to establish an independent Media Council for fair arbitration as Malaysian media outlets are losing space and readers to increasing overreach censorship by officialdom, including fair space to criticise governing institutions in public interest.

“Public confidence in our institutions of governance can only be foisted by public criticism and debate, not by repressing democratic dissents. This is likely to continue bolstering public discontent on the status of public institutions.”
