Kota Kinabalu: A man who killed a cat by chopping off its head in Kampung Timbang Dayang, Kota Belud, last July was sentenced to two years and five months in jail by the Kota Belud magistrates’ court today.

Jaferi Suman, 32, was sentenced by magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 428 of the Penal Code, FMT reported.

According to case details, the accused committed the act on July 3 at about 3pm in front of his neighbour’s children, the cat’s owners.

Following the incident, the children’s father lodged a police report the next day at about 3.35pm and Jaferi was arrested on July 5.

The incident was said to have caused trauma to the two children after seeing the accused kill the cat by using a parang.

The accused was found to be a drug addict with a criminal record.

Earlier in mitigation, Jaferi asked for his jail sentence to start from the date he was remanded, which was July 5. His request was approved by Lovely.

The accused was not represented while the prosecution was conducted by Inspector Mohd U’kasyah Hashim.
