Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has delivered his two former clubs a bumper windfall after scoring on his England debut last night.

The Mirror says Watkins came off the bench to score England's final goal in the 5-0 rout of San Marino as the Three Lions got their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign off to a winning start.

Watkins revealed his shock last week at earning his first England call-up and hailed the "great journey" his career had taken him on from playing in League Two just four years ago.

The 25-year-old started his career at Exeter City before a successful stint at Brentford, prior to his mega-money move to Villa in the summer.

And as a result of his international exploits, both Exeter and Brentford are now set to cash-in.

Villa forked out an initial £28million to land Watkins' services, with a further £5m due in various add-ons.

As reports The Athletic, Brentford had a clause inserted into the transfer agreement with Villa which earns them £1million each time he makes an appearance for his country, up to a small number of caps.

Of that £1m which The Bees are now due, Exeter stand to receive a 15% cut, totalling £150,000 - a significant amount for a club of their stature.
