Former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt believes manager Jose Mourinho is safe after their Europa League elimination by Dinamo Zagreb.

Thorstvedt, who played 173 games for Spurs, insists Mourinho shouldn't be under pressure.

"There are many who shout that he should be fired, but I do not think that happens now," Thorstvedt told VG.

"We must respect what Mourinho has achieved before, but it seems that he has been parked on the sidelines in relation to what the other teams have managed to develop.

"It is possible to lose football matches. But that way, it was bad, that's right. Right now he has a straw that can save him: the League Cup final.

"I have said all the way that this ends in dismay, but there is hope that there will be 'something in the closet', that is why they picked him up."
