MIRI – Sarawak is forming a support group for Covid-19 survivors starting in Sibu, the state’s worst-hit district.

Leading the effort is state Assistant Public Health Minister and Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He said the group is starting registration of survivors in Sibu.

“This support group is to serve as a common platform to help those who survived Covid-19.

“The group will provide support in terms of physical, emotional and welfare help. The group will also look into providing welfare aid to survivors who can no longer work.

“The survivors and their families need help to recover physically and mentally from the disease as well. We will be opening a site for online registration soon,” he said.

Dr Annuar said Sibu, as the worst-hit district by the coronavirus, needs specific focus.

Of the 91 deaths and more than 12,000 Covid-19 patients in Sarawak, half of them were in Sibu.

“Going through the Covid-19 infection and treatment process is a mentally and physically painful experience.

“Those who are exhausted by the experience need a lot of help to recover and return to normal life.

“The survivors group will be there to help them after they leave the hospital.” – The Vibes, March 16, 2021
