The 24-year-old was celebrating his birthday recently, and reportedly went to Monaco around that time.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle sources claim he went to the French Riviera for "checks," and had permission from the club.
Some of his Magpies teammates were not pleased at Saint-Maximin getting a seven day break, per the report.
