Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admits they need Champions League qualification to keep hold of Erling Haaland.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both targeting Haaland.

United were keen on signing Haaland before his move to Dortmund was confirmed in December 2019, while City have also been credited with an interested in the Norwegian.

Speaking to Welt am Sonntag, Zorc said that Dortmund will "try to keep him (Haaland) as long as possible for sporting reasons" — qualifying for next season's Champions League.

"I have never seen someone like him. We can search Europe-wide. If he ever left us somewhere, there would only be a handful of clubs, but we'll try to keep him as long as possible for sporting reasons," he said.

"We don't want to play in the Europa League on Thursdays. We want to give our calling card in the Champions League."
