Trio charged with trafficking syabu

TAWAU: The trial of three men charged with trafficking 70,942.52gm of syabu, had started on Monday.

The trial of Tan Teng Siong, 40, Tan Teng Sang, 35, and Tay Thong Keng, 31, was conducted before High Court Judge Lim Hock Leng.

The trio was accused of trafficking the drug at 12.30pm on Nov 9, 2018 in Jalan Haji Karim, here.

The offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act carries a life imprisonment, or death sentence, and whipping at least 15 strokes, on conviction.

About four witnesses would be called during the five-day trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammed Ali Imran conducted the prosecution while counsel Vivien Thien and Foong Kitson defended the trio.
