Wolves striker Pedro Neto had hoped to face a full-strength Liverpool.
Neto has been a bright spot in Nuno Espirito Santo's season.
But the 21-year-old wants to improve and says there would be no better people to measure himself against than the duo who are currently crocked.
He said: "I'd prefer it if Van Dijk and Gomez were playing because I want to play against the best so I can improve.
“What's the best thing in football? When we can play with the best. That's why I'm in this league, to show I can do my job and play my own game."
