SHAH ALAM, March 8 — A renowned glove maker in Selangor has registered for the Preventing and Detecting Outbreaks at Ignition Sites (POIS) programme to bring down the Covid-19 infection rate.
Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the system, which started in early February, can help the factory curb positive cases without suspending its operations.
“We found that there was a rise in infection at the factory in the past few days, at this point, the POIS system has been carried out and we are hoping to control its spread,” he said.
Amirudin, who was met after launching the state-level Women’s Day celebration, also urged more factories to register with the system to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
On January 6, the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) launched POIS to prevent and reduce workplace clusters.
Registered employers need to set up a committee consisting of several small groups with different functions whose roles are to identify high-risk areas and activities (in their premises).
The committee should formulate an emergency action plan, reduce external contacts and ensure that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are complied with.
The SELangkah (Step In, Safely) application records the in-and-out movement of employees, and monitors the POIS component as well as analysing employee’s risks to regulate the frequency of testing.
Among the companies that have participated in POIS include Nestle, in which its factory is located in Section 15, here, and Celestica Malaysia in Johor and Kedah.
