Manchester United defender Eric Bailly admits manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer asked him about Amad before they signed the winger from Atalanta.
Amad scored his first United goal in Thursday's clash with AC Milan, brilliantly flicking Bruno Fernandes' lofted ball past Gianluigi Donnaruma with the back of his head.
"I know him before, and when Ole talked me to about him, I said I know he's very humble, he's quiet, he doesn't speak a lot," said Bailly in an interview with Sky Sports.
"For me I didn't think twice, I said to the boss he's a good guy, he has the talent."
Bailly said he has taken Amad under his wing since the teenager arrived in Manchester in the January transfer window, in a deal that could be worth up to £37million.
"I do everything - agent, big brother - it's okay, I'm happy for him," said the centre-back.
Meanwhile, Bailly is determined to give more for United ahead of their return to top-flight action against top-four contenders West Ham on Sunday.
"I want to do more for this club, because in my bad time the club has helped me about everything and I'm proud about this," he said.
"Now I'm trying to keep focused, keep training and get more games.
"I have a good moment now, and I want to enjoy the moment."
