Liverpool stars will miss out on big financial bonuses should they fail to finish in the top four this season.

The Telegraph says Jurgen Klopp's squad were set to receive bumper deals when they signed their next contracts after delivering the club's first top-flight title in 30 years, but that could be scrapped if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League because it would leave a significant shortfall in the club's finances.

No player has extended their terms since winning the league and Liverpool are now down in eighth and in danger of missing out on a place in Europe's elite competition - which earned them £95million when they won it in 2019 - after suffering their sixth successive home defeat at the weekend to Fulham.

Some intermediaries fear Liverpool's remarkable title-winning season last term will be long forgotten when negotiating deals if they fail to finish in the top four.

A number of Liverpool stars, including Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are entering the final two years of their deals, which is when the club usually look to agree an extension.
