Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says the club should pay whatever it costs to sign Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian has emerged of one of football's brightest talents over the past 12 months, having scored 47 goals in 48 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in the 20-year-old, but Ferdinand wants to see his former club make a move.

"You know what, they've just got to go and give everything to get Haaland, I don't care," he said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show.

"I don't like to talk about players coming from other teams but this guy man, we can't afford to let this guy go anywhere else.

"His only destination is England, that's the only place he's going. If he goes anywhere else I'd be so surprised.

"Born here, born and bred. He obviously loves English football, his dad played here. I'm sure it's one of his dreams to come and play in England.

"Why not in the red shirt at Old Trafford? Be the guy that brings trophies back to Man Utd and brings the successful period back. Be that guy."
