CMCO, RMCO extended until April 14

PETALING JAYA: The conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Kuala Lumpur and four states will be extended from April 1 to April 14.

Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang and Kelantan will remain under the CMCO for another two weeks, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob told a press conference today.

The recovery movement control order (RMCO) in eight states and two federal territories will also be extended until April 14.

The RMCO in Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Terengganu, as well as the federal territories of Putrajaya and Labuan, will remain for the next two weeks.

The current restrictions on inter-district and interstate travel will also be extended for another two weeks.

Meanwhile, the CMCO in Sarawak is set to end on April 12 as per the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) announcement last Friday.

“Overall, the health ministry has confirmed a downward trend in Covid-19 cases in many states,” said Ismail.

“However, there are still some states that are showing a fluctuating and rising trend,” he added.

Quoting figures from a recent Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) study, Ismail said he was pleased to note that only a “small number” of people do not comply with SOPs.

Nearly 97% of people wore face masks in public, 90% of the population comply with physical distancing regulations and 88% regularly wash or sanitise their hands, according to the study.

“These figures are good indicators and show that Malaysians are beginning to realise the importance of complying with SOPs to keep themselves, their families and the surrounding community safe from the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

Meanwhile, 17 people were arrested by police yesterday over movement control order-related offences, with all of them issued compounds.

Participating in activities in nightclubs and pubs made up the majority of the offences (14).

Meanwhile, 3,647 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 37,878 places of worship, supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

Regarding the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 158,617 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to March 29 and were placed under quarantine.

Some 1,180 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 150,185 have been allowed to return home.

A total of 7,252 are undergoing mandatory quarantine. -- FMT
