Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended his team selection in the loss to Leicester City on Sunday.

Solksjaer brought Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial to replace Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford.

The end result was a 3-1 defeat at the King Power, which saw Leicester reach for the FA Cup semi-finals.

Fred gifted Leicester an opening goal when his weak back-pass allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to intercept and score easily past Dean Henderson.

The Red Devils equalised shortly before half-time thanks to some neat play from Pogba, whose pass into the box was dummied by van de Beek, allowing Mason Greenwood to sweep home.

But United found themselves down seven minutes after the break when Youri Tielemans fired a terrific low shot into the bottom corner.

Iheanacho put the game to bed when he headed in his second goal of the game.

Leicester will now face Southampton in the semi-final at Wembley.

Asked if the changes affected the performance, he told the BBC: "I would've done the same again, the changes were necessary to do. We knew Paul [Pogba] wouldn't last more than an hour and I don't think I would do anything differently. What goes on behind the scenes isn't always known."

Pushed further on Pogba and van de Beek in his post-match press conference, he added: "I would have started the same team again, we felt they had more than 45 minutes in them, they're important players for us, that's why we started."
