Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says their form surge is thanks to the impact of Joao Cancelo.

The Portugal wing-back is being celebrated in England for his form this season - something Gundogan is in agreement with.

He told the Guardian: "We started to have a winger, Joao Cancelo, entering the midfield to create a superiority of players there to give us an advantage. It took a little time until everyone understood what (Pep) Guardiola wanted from us. But now we feel that if we play well we will get the results. I am really convinced that all the credit has to go to Pep.

"Joao is technically very good at keeping the ball, at giving the ball to the right man, in the right space, so it didn't surprise me that he is doing so well in this different scheme. He's fast and goes back to his winger position. So we also have a great defence."
