Brighton boss Graham Potter is delighted with the progress of Aaron Connolly.

The 21-year-old has missed spells throughout the campaign with injury, making 16 Premier League appearances and scoring twice.

But Potter insists to the club's website: “He's progressing well.

“When we talk about progress we automatically link it to positive performances and how he's dealing with the Premier League, and he's doing that well.

“He's taking responsibility, he's got some things that he needs to improve, but he also knows the things that he does well. It's about helping him with both. He's trying his best and he's had a frustrating season for a few reasons but he's always fighting for the team. While it's like that we want to try and help him.

“He's only a young man. I look back at myself when I was that age and I didn't know a lot of things that maybe thought I did.

“But he's taking responsibility, he's learning about himself more and about what it takes to be a Premier League footballer and how to deal with setbacks and disappointment that comes your way.

“But he does a lot of stuff really well, he has got some attributes that are exciting for him and for us and. Like any young player, it's about balancing the needs of the team and his development to help him have a really good career."
