21-year-old gets 7 years for kissing 9-year-old boy

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old man was jailed seven years for committing sexual abuse against a nine-year-old boy.

Alias Azrin Alias Rahmad pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against him, Wednesday.

He committed the offence by kissing the boy at 10am on Nov 18, 2020 inside the toilet of a house in Kg Melulugus, Beaufort.

The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, upon conviction.

Before sentencing, the court asked Alias whether he needed the social report as his age was 20 during the incident. But he said he did not want the report and ask the court to proceed with the sentencing.

In asking for leniency, Alias informed the court that he has no parents.

He asked for the sentence to be served from the date of his arrest.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nureen Natasha Mohd Rafie urged for a deterrent sentence on the grounds that the victim was only nine-year-old and was traumatised due to the incident.

The court heard that Alias had brought the victim to the toilet by telling him that he wanted to give him money.

While inside the toilet, Alias kissed the boy twice.

Investigation revealed that Alias and two other friends had a drinking session at the house before the incident happened.
