Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has spoken of how he was convinced about moving to England last summer.

Llorente, who struck this week in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool, joined Leeds from Real Sociedad.

He recalled to Marca: "I was focused on Royal Sociedad when the Leeds offer arrived and I met with (sporting director) Victor Orta. They taught me the style of play and how my features could be adjusted... When I left the presentation I had little to think about. I had always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and other years had had offers, but I wanted to take the right step and this time I saw it clearly.

"In addition, Leeds is a historical club that has not been able to be where it deserves, but which has a very ambitious project.

"The context was not very favourable: in the middle of a pandemic, after the rarest preseason I remember, but, although it was a very important change, I think it was a good deal for both parties and that the time to make the leap to another more important challenge. I am eternally grateful to La Real for betting firmly on me and because in three years I have made great progress as a player. Both my family and I carry the club in our hearts."
