Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man, who pleaded guilty at the High Court to bring in transit an undocumented China national migrant, who was smuggled into the country, will know his fate on April 19.Jamir Amil, who was brought before Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad, admitted to committing the offence to the 16-year-old boy through Malaysia by land or otherwise at the arrival hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 8.40pm on March 22, 2019. Nurchaya set April 19 for facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecution applied for an adjournment to amend the facts of the case. Jamir was jointly charged with another accused Isnawati Ghani to the charge under Section 26C of the Anti-Trafficking-In Persons and Smuggling of the Migrants Act 2007. Isnawati, 44, who maintained her innocence to the charge, applied for bail.
The court, however fixed April 13 to hear Isnawati’s bail application. The charge against Jamir and Isnawati carries a jail term of up to seven years, and liability of a fine or to both on conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Khairuddin Idris prosecuted while Jamir and Isnawati were represented by counsel Mohd Fadzil Abdul Karim. Both Jamir and Isnawati were ordered to be further remanded pending the dates.
