David McGoldrick says Sheffield United's players are playing for the futures in the remaining games of the season.

The striker was the matchwinner against Brighton last weekend.

"The win shows that just because we are relegated, we are not just sacking it off," he said.

"We have got our futures to play for. Paul Heckingbottom has done a great job with us and he has said that he is not going to be the manager next season, so we are playing for our futures and the new manager is probably watching us.

"We all want to stay and play for Sheffield United and everyone is fighting for that.

"We showed resilience in the second half and stuck in there and it showed that we are not giving up, there are games left and we are not going to be an easy ride for anyone to get three points.

"We had bodies on the line and everyone, including the subs, played their part. We said we have got to be a team, we can't go out there and just be single players. We have to be a team still and we did that.

"This season has upset me. The relegation. The fans are gutted and we are just as gutted. I have said it many times in the press we care about this club and we haven't taken relegation well, but hopefully those three points will put a smile on fans faces for one night.

"Obviously, the table will still be the same and it will still have that 'R' at the bottom. We are still fighting for the club and I hope they know we are doing that until the end."
