Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has taken aim at Italy's Super League clubs.

Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan were part of the attempt to form the breakaway group before it collapsed last week.

After victory over Bologna on Sunday, which saw La Dea move into second-place on the table, Gasperini said: "There are teams that offer my players seven, eight times what they earn here.

"The problem comes if all of us have to pay the debts of these clubs.

"Imagine tonight's game, we dreamed of the Champions League to meet Madrid again. With the Super League, today's game was of no use. And all to save 12 clubs?"

Gasperini confessed his fear: "I thought for a moment that everything was over, luckily the English, thanks also to coaches like Klopp and Guardiola, took a step back. If not, for Atalanta it would have been the end.

"What was left," asked the Italian, "a competition with 15 fixed and 5 guests? No, thanks. To this invitation I would have said no."
