Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer has released a statement about the club's support for a new European Super League.

The Red Devils are among a host of top European clubs that are forming a breakaway league to challenge the UEFA Champions League.

The Super League would include a total of 20 teams, including 15 founding clubs.

So far a total of 12 teams have agreed to participate, including United, AC Milan, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Tottenham.

The Premier League, UEFA and FIFA have threatened legal action and other measures against the clubs if these plans continue.

Glazer said in a statement: "By bringing together the world's greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid."
