Tuaran:

Residents of Kg Gayang here, which has been placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (Emco) from April 10 to 23, are advised not to exit the area.

Tuaran District Police Chief DSP Mohd Hamizi Halim (pic) warned that those found breaching the standard operating procedures (SOPs) risk facing legal action.

“The movement of individuals and vehicles on the routes within the area will be controlled but the residents do not have to worry because household representatives are still allowed to go out and buy necessities at grocery stores within the Emco area,” he said.

He added that all residents and foreigners living in the Emco area are also required to go to the Kg Gayang Community Hall to undergo a Covid-19 test conducted by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) for free.

Meanwhile, Tuaran District Officer Sadan Hussain said the MOH confirmed that there was a sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in Kg Gayang, with a high infection rate.

He said as of 4pm on Friday, the MOH had conducted 38 screening tests in Kg Gayang and out of the number, five positive Covid-19 cases were detected.

After conducting risk assessment with various agencies in the Movement Control Order (MCO) Technical Committee and on the advice of the MOH, the State Government agreed to implement Emco at the area, he added.

“As of 9.10pm on Friday, a total of 55 individuals had been quarantined at the quarantine centre in the Rela Gayang Training Centre, while cleaning and disinfection works were carried out in Tuaran, Tenghilan, Tamparuli and Kiulu.

“The implementation of Emco is to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection from risk areas to outside the locality as well as to enable the MOH to conduct targeted tests on all residents,” said Sadan.
