SUNGAI BULOH, April 1 — Women continue to play the lead role in the state community when the number of female appointed as village chief increases to 16 people.

Selangor Housing and Urban Wellbeing, and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the increase proves that the state is always ahead by not placing gender as a condition.

“In the last term only five women were appointed but now it has reached 16. This time was also different, as previously most village chiefs were old, yet now many women offer themselves for the post with the youngest chief aged 34,” said Rodziah.

She said this to the media after the Women’s Day Celebration for Paya Jaras state constituency at Kelab Rahman Putra here yesterday.

According to her, the state has 371 village chiefs and did not rule out the possibility that more women will hold the post in the future.

Rodziah, who is also the Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KEADILAN) Women chief, said her party are also proud that women from the party filled 37 out of the 122 local council members post in the state.

“Thank you to the men for granting this honour and no longer debating about qualification and even giving way to women,” she said.
