Braga president António Salvador has confirmed David Carmo was on his way to Liverpool in January.
Speaking with Marca, Salvador says the deal fell through due to an injury picked up by the defender.
He recalled: "We have to sell every year. In January, for example, David Carmo had a foot and a half in Liverpool, but we ended up keeping him. Despite being injured, he still has several suitors, including from Spain.
"We have to receive between €12.5 and 15 million in transfers. This is an established point if we are to remain at the same level we have been in for the past decade.
"This year we will have to do more in the face of the damage caused by the pandemic."
