Kota Kinabalu: Eleven people were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here for committing drug-related offences.Nine of them Henderson Yong, Asran Djalani, Mohammad Syah, Faizal Wira, Azwan Muhammad, Zairi Awang, Jimel Sulong, Azisar Sali and Syahfis Sakaran pleaded guilty to taking syabu and amphetamine at separate locations here between Sept 4, 2020 and Feb 18 this year. Henderson and Asran was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,000 or six months jail each, while Mohamad, Azwan, Zairi and Syahfis were fined RM1,500 or six months jail each.
Faisal, Jimel and Azisar were each jailed six months from the date of their arrest. Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction. Meanwhile, a man Mohd Nur Idraki was fined RM4,000 or eight months for having cannabis.
He was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM20,000 or up to five years or both on conviction. Another man, Amiruddin Muhammad was sentenced to six months’ jail for having syabu as framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. The charge provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction. Inspectors Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit and Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuted before Magistrates Stephanie Sherron Abbie and Lovely Natasha Charles.
