Richard Arnold is favourite to replace vice-chairman exec Ed Woodward at Manchester United.
The Daily Mail says United managing director Arnold is in line to succeed Woodward as the man in charge at Old Trafford with the Glazer family eager for continuity at the club despite the embarrassment of the European Super League debacle.
Arnold is close to Woodward having met at Bristol University three decades ago and they have worked together at United since 2007 when Arnold was put in charge of the club's commercial department, whose performance he has helped to transform.
Arnold's promotion would provide another firm indication that Woodward is not blamed by the Glazers for the ESL fiasco as he was merely carrying out the owners' instructions.
