KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Negara People’s Well-being Committee Caucus has urged the government to put pressure on Israel through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as well as the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUOIC) to ensure the safety and well-being of the Palestinian people.
Its chairman Senator Datuk Razali Idris said Malaysia, through the OIC and PUOIC, has a duty to speak out over the recent rise in Israeli atrocities.
“Peace needs to be restored especially for the Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Jerusalem, who are being forced out of their homes as a plan for expulsion and ethnic cleansing by Jewish illegal immigrants.
“This is the culmination of a series of atrocities and violence at the end of Ramadan,” said Razali who is also Malaysian Senators’ Council deputy president.
The senate caucus slammed Israel for its gross human rights violations, after its military attacked and injured over 200 Palestinians as they stormed into the al-Aqsa Mosque using grenades, tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets.
He said the caucus, together with PUOIC, will continue to raise their voices so that they could be heard in all parts of the world as a show of support for Palestinian oppression.
Meanwhile, Southeast Asian Muslim Youth in a separate statement urged the United Nations and the international community, to pressure the Israeli government to respect the international laws and the relevant UN Security Council and OIC resolutions.
“We are also urging the OIC to convene an emergency meeting to address the currently emerging issue in Palestine, calling upon all leaders of Islamic countries to bind together and utilise any possible channels to appropriately ensure that the Zionist regime and its allies do not subvert Palestinian sovereignty.
“Any dealings aimed at promoting Israeli policy should be firmly denied,” the statement added.
Elsewhere, Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) president Nasrudin Hassan called on the international community to unite and immediately act to oppose the tyranny of the Zionist military.
Nasruddin said Israel had no reason to attack Palestinians worshipping during the holy month.
“Israeli aggression to the point of injuring Palestinians who were worshipping in the final days of Ramadan this year shows their true cowardice because it was clear that the congregation at Al-Aqsa was not a security threat to them.
“As such, Yadim strongly condemns the action which was against the law and had violated the rights of the Palestinian people to worship,” he said.
Yadim also urged the public, especially the Muslim community in the country to pray for the safety of the Palestinian people and for them to always be protected from the regime’s heinous actions.
In a related matter, the OIC will hold an emergency meeting next Tuesday, at the request of Palestine, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The meeting, which is scheduled to be held among OIC’s permanent representatives, will also be discussing matters on Israeli occupation forces’ plan to forcibly displace dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, as well as the continuous attacks on holy sites and worshipper, especially at Al-Aqsa. – Bernama, May 10, 2021
