Valencia have named Jose Bordalas as new manager after his exit from Getafe earlier this week.

The 57-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the Mestalla with option to extend it by a further year.

Bordalas took Getafe into the Europa League during his five years in charge but has decided to walk away following a below-par campaign in LaLiga which saw them finish 15th.

Valencia announced the news on their official website on Thursday, before releasing a welcoming video on their Twitter page.

A club statement read: "Valencia CF have reached an agreement for Jose Bordalas to become the new first team coach for the coming two seasons, through to June 30th, 2023, with an optional third year.

"Bordalas joins the club following an extensive career to date, in which he has overseen more than 500 official games across several levels of Spanish football.

"Amongst his standout achievements is his leading Getafe CF to the UEFA Europa League Last 16 in 2020."

Getafe chairman Angel Torres confirmed the move on Wednesday in a departing press conference, despite official confirmation not coming until a day later from Valencia.

"For me there is pride in our coach going to a friendly club like Valencia," he said.
