Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists Mikel Arteta is the right man in charge of Arsenal.

Guardiola is in regular contact with Arteta, who served as his right-hand man at the Etihad for almost three-and-a-half years before taking over in the Gunners hot seat in December 2019.

The Gunners this season finished eighth in the Premier League, meaning they failed to qualify for European competition for the first time in 25 years.

"I love the fact that nothing is for granted," he told BT Sport.

"In two or three weeks I said 'oh my God, next season' - Liverpool is back, United is stronger every season and Arsenal is making a step forward and they will invest."

Speaking earlier this month, Arteta hinted at multiple signings as he looks to provide competition for his current crop of stars.

He said: "Now we must find a different way to do it [get the best out of players].

"Challenging them again, putting somebody next to them to try to push them again.

"Some of them can get to a certain level and you cannot push any further. If you want to evolve that, it is not possible.

“When I said the majority I didn't say all of them and some had some big contributions to make to those results."
