JAKARTA: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo (pic) said all elements are obliged to flood cyberspace with positive content. “Challenges in the digital space are getting bigger. Negative contents continue to emerge.
Crimes in digital space continue to increase,” he said in his remark in the launching event of the National Digital Literacy Program held virtually.
He assessed that negative contents were rampant in the digital universe, such as hoaxes, online fraud, gambling, child sexual exploitation, cyberbullying, hate speech, up to radicalism. Those, he underlined, must be watched out for since they could threaten the nation’s unity and integrity.
“This is our mutual obligation to keep suppressing negative contents, flood the digital space with positive contents. Keep flooding it with positive contents,” the President said.
Therefore, he said all parties must improve their digital skills to create more creative and educative contents that promote peace.
Cyberspace must also be used to improve the economy. Jokowi called on all people to optimise the internet to boost productivity. For example, MSMEs could expand their capacity by utilising online marketing. “[Internet can be optimised] to upgrade MSMEs to the next level and more businesses engage into e-commerce so it gives added economic value to all elements of society,” he said.
