Manchester United Double winner Gary Pallister says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the club's best manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pallister said United need to start quickly tonight against Villarreal.

He told SBK sportsbook: "Previously he's not got to a final and that's been talked about but he's over that and they're in a final now. He needs to put a trophy in the cabinet and I'm sure he feels that way. Ole and this Manchester United team is the best side United have had for quite a while. They try to play in the image of Manchester United and Ole gets that, the fans are happy with the way it is going.

"To go a Premier League season unbeaten away from home tells you something. They've gone to other people's patches and not been beaten, which is incredible.

"I think this is the closest the club has been to the top since Sir Alex left and I think that's because Ole has been the first manager to understand the club. United is different from most clubs around the world in that they expect entertainment and unfortunately they never really got it from previous managers. He knows what the fans want and he's trying to play entertaining football and not settling for points, he wants to go and win every game. Whether the squad is good enough at the moment to play that gung-ho football, possibly not. If Ole adds to the squad then the signs are good.

T"he thing is with United, they can be so up and down and consistency is something they've been trying to find for most of the season. They've started games poorly a lot of times and managed to drag themselves back into the game.

"I think a lot depends on Manchester United and how they turn up on the night. If they turn up hungry and confident then I think they win the game. If they start like they have started for a lot of games this season then there might be a problem."
