Leeds United are prioritising the signing of a defensive midfielder this summer.

Acording to Football Insider, the Whites hope to secure such a player to serve as cover for Kalvin Phillips.

When Phillips is absent, Leeds' performances often suffer, such as during their 2-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

A Leeds source says that director of football Victor Orta is working on a shortlist of defensive midfielders to chase in the summer.

Any prospective signing must be good enough to start in the Premier League, but also happy to serve as deputy to Phillips.
