Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man charged with murdering a man in Sembulan three years ago will go on trial on Oct 4-7.
High Court Judicial Commissioner Amelati Parnell set the date for Mohd Arddin Sumang on Tuesday during further management of his case.
The court also set Aug 18 for case management.
Arddin was accused of committing the offence against Abd Razi Bahadum, 55, at 6.20pm on Feb 20, 2018 in front of a grocery shop at Kampung Sembulan Lama.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death sentence, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syarifuddin Abd Rasa prosecuted while Arddin was represented by counsel Farazwin Haxdy.
Meanwhile, in the Magistrate’s Court, a 24-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months jail for shoplifting.
Mohd Almahdi Sani pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing three bottles of perfume at 10.30am on March 26 this year at Watsons in Centre Point Complex.
The charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, upon conviction.
The court heard that Almahdi was detained by a security guard who saw him behaving in a suspicious manner while walking out from the premises.
When checked, the stolen items were found in Almahdi’s possession and was subsequently handed over to the police.
Represented by duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, Almahdi requested a lenient sentence.
