KOTA KINABALU: The State Health Department has refuted claims that unused Covid-19 vaccines are being thrown away.

Its Director, Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the vaccines are stored at the set temperature and would only be taken out of the coolbox when they are going to be administered to recipients.

“To avoid wastage, the number of vaccines prepared is based on the number of recipients on that particular day,” she said in a statement, Wednesday.

Meanwhile, she said the number of individuals registered for Covid-19 immunisation has increased from 9.1 per cent of the State’s total population on March 18, to 16.2 per cent on May 18.
