KUALA LUMPUR - Stakeholders in the sports industry have proposed the establishment of a special body for personal trainers, as well as other suggestions, during engagement sessions as part of the canvassing process for National Sports Vision 2030 (VSN 2030).

VSN 2030 is expected to breathe new life into the country’s sports arena by adopting the “from community to community” concept so that the people themselves, regardless of their background plan the national sports strategy for the next 10 years.

Nadi Sihat president Azlina Abdul Aziz, 49, urged the government to raise the amount of tax relief granted to Malaysians for purchasing sporting items because she believed it could help the community to buy high-quality sporting goods and further promote a healthy lifestyle among the people.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azmir Zainul Abidin, 35, said it was time for Malaysia to explore the idea of becoming a sports technology hub in the future as the country had potential and talent in the field.

The former national rugby player said Malaysia was heavily dependent on foreign countries such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan for sports technology.

Last month, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican launched the VSN 2030 Canvas aimed at providing opportunities for players and practitioners in the sports industry to be directly involved in the formulation of national sports development policy for this decade. - Bernama, May 6, 2021
