Patrick Bamford's 16th Premier League goal of the season helped Leeds United defeat Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

In front of 8,000 fans, Bamford flicked the ball into the net following Rodrigo's ball over the Saints defence.

Leeds added a second goal in injury-time when Bamford's shot was saved by McCarthy, allowing Tyler Roberts convert the rebound.

Saints best chance of the game came through Che Adams but Kiko Castilla denied the Scotland international's header with a fine save.

James Ward-Prowse almost scored with a signature free-kick but was denied by the woodwork.

The victory takes Leeds up above Arsenal and Everton into eighth and guarantees Marcelo Bielsa's side a top-10 finish.

Speaking after the game, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was full of praise for Bamford.

"Patrick had a very generous performance with a lot of effort and he's had a season in which he's shone. I'm sure he'll be very positive about the campaign he's had, be what may.

"Everything he's achieved this season is because of the dedication and effort that he's put in to show off his abilities."
